29 Dogs That Look Like Teddy Bears You Will Fall In Love With

29 Dogs That Look Like Teddy Bears You Will Fall In Love With

What’s cuter than puppies? Dogs that look like Teddy Bears, of course!

A few years ago, there was a popular image of a Teddy Bear dog circulating the internet. While the image turned out to be fake, and it showcased a mishmash of breeds, this doesn’t mean dogs that look like stuffed animals don’t exist.

Here are some of the most popular Teddy Bear dogs you cannot not say “awww” to:

1. Shorkie

Shorkie

We’ll start with one of the cutest mixed breed dogs – Shorkie, the Shih Tzu Yorkie mix.

These dogs are known for their small size and large personality, which both parent breeds share. You can expect them to be vocal and attention-craving, so they might not be for everyone. Still, you cannot deny they are some of the most adorable dogs out there!

2. Tibetan Terrier

Tibetan-Terrier

Tibetan Terriers are large dogs that can vary in appearance depending on the coat type and length. Those with shorter coats sure do look like stuffed bears, with their round eyes and wide smiles.

Don’t let their name fool you – this dog doesn’t belong in the terrier dog group. They owe their name to European settlers who first saw these dogs in Tibet and thought they shared many resemblances with the terrier dogs they knew.

3. Chinese Shar Pei

Chinese Shar Pei

Chinese Shar Pei dogs are known for their wrinkly faces and blue tongues, a trait only they and Chow Chows share. Oh, and let’s not forget polar bears that also have this unique tongue color!

Shar Peis are well-known guard dogs, and their large stature and beady eyes sure can make people confuse them with bears. Their cuteness is what adds the “Teddy” prefix!

4. Bichpoo

Bichpoo

Also known as Poochons, Bichpoos are a popular Poodle mix with Bichon Frises. Just like many other Doodles, they are some of the most well-known Teddy Bear lookalikes you can find.

While not recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), Bichpoos are commonly sold and bred all across the United States. Considering their adorable looks and the unconditional love they have for their owners, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

5. Labradoodle

Labradoodle

Another Doodle most people have heard about is the Labradoodle, which is a mix of our beloved family dog, Labrador Retriever, and Standard Poodle – although other Poodle sizes can be used, as well.

This is an amazing family dog that is well-suited for both small children and other pets. However, its thick fur can inherit Labrador’s shedding amounts, so don’t think of them as hypoallergenic dogs.

6. Chow Chow

Chow-Chow

Chow Chow is yet another dog that not only looks like a large Teddy Bear but also has a blue tongue!

Don’t let the gorgeous fluffiness of this dog fool you. This is a territorial pooch that makes a great guard dog.

Also, did you know that the name of this Chinese dog breed doesn’t originate from China, but rather from England?

7. Havanese

Havanese

Havanese is the only dog breed native to Cuba. It is also a rather cute Teddy Bear dog known for its small stature and long, hypoallergenic coat.

A close relative of the Bichon Frise, this is an affectionate and intelligent pooch that makes an amazing family pet.

Unlike many other small breeds, Havanese don’t have the classic feisty temperament of toy dogs. If you’re looking for a great companion, this is the right pup for you.

8. Cavapoo

Cavapoo

Cavapoo is a mixed breed of a Toy Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, designed to keep the sweet appearance of both breeds while eliminating health issues CKCSs have, such as mitral valve heart disease

Cavapoos have soft coats and thick hair that doesn’t shed, so they are great for allergy sufferers. And did you see just how lovable they are!?

    9. Great Pyrenees

    Great Pyrenees

This large breed is one of the most handsome dogs you can run into. Their fluffy, white coats contrasted with dark eyes and a black nose make them look like huge toys.

Great Pyrenees is one of the few dog breeds that is nocturnal. It was bred to guard the flocks at night while other pups, such as German Shepherds, were sleeping. This also makes them great guard dogs, as they certainly won’t sleep through a burglary.

    10: Bhutanese Spaniel

    Bhutanese Spaniel

Also known as the Tibetan Spaniel, this is a cute dog that still isn’t too popular in the United States. I hope this will change when people see just how charming this little pup is.

These pooches are great for households with numerous pets but might be a bit tricky with small children, as they are naturally reserved and protect their personal space.

    11. Maltese

    Maltese

Maltese is a true royalty among dogs. Just look at this canine! Doesn’t it just deserve a crown on its head?

Their long, silky coats make them rather unique among pups. And the best part of it all is that they don’t shed. You aren’t likely to find a single white hair on the carpet if you own a Maltese dog!

Just remember that they do require quite a bit of grooming, making them a moderately challenging breed when it comes to maintenance.

    12. Biewer Terrier

    Biewer Terrier

Biewer Terriers might resemble Maltese a bit, but their coats are not as silly nor as long, and they typically come particolored.

The only purpose of this dog is to love and to be loved, and they can become very close with their owners. And if you keep their coats short, they sure look like stuffed toys for children!

    13. Portuguese Water Dog

    Portuguese Water Dog

The Portuguese Water Dog is a popular canine breed famous for its webbed feet – although it is far from being the only dog with such paws.

This pooch has one of the curliest coats you’ve probably ever seen. Isn’t it the cutest?

    14. Cockapoo

     Cockapoo

Of course, we have to add more Doodles on the list, so here comes Cockapoo!

Cockapoo is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, and it is one of the friendliest dogs you’ll run into. It is a goofy companion to small kids, and a lap dog for adult owners.

While some don’t consider mixed dogs a real breed, no one can deny its charm.

    15. Alaskan Malamute

    Alaskan Malamute

Do you know those dogs that look like larger, fluffier Huskies? Those are Alaskan Malamutes, one of the most glorious dog breeds you can find.

While the amount of shedding Malamute owners experience is tremendous, its intelligent qualities and hard-working nature make everything worth it.

    16. Shiba Inu

    Shiba Inu

There is some disagreement on whether Shiba Inus look like Teddy Bears or rather like some adorable foxes. Either way, they look so fluffy you just want to squeeze them in a hug.

However, you probably won’t end well if you do just that, as these are proud pups that prefer to spend time on their own.

    17. Keeshond

    Keeshond

If you’ve thought Alaskan Malamutes were the fluffiest dogs on our list, you were wrong. Keeshond has entered the chat! Or, rather, the article.

This medium size dog is related to Samoyeds, Huskies, and the Greenland Dog. Its most notable feature is the thick double coat that requires plenty of grooming. And yes, it sheds a lot.

    18. Russian Bolonka Dog

    Russian Bolonka Dog

Russian Bolonka Dogs, also known as Russian Colored Lapdogs, are black fluff balls that are unjustifiably not well known in the States. Just look at their cute faces! Who would not want to own one?

This is one of the most docile breeds you can find, making them astonishing family pets suitable for apartment living.

    19. Lhasa Apso

     Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso is yet another dog with a long, silky coat, although some owners prefer to cut it short.

Believe it or not, but this dog breed was initially bred to be an indoor watchdog that will let you know if an intruder enters your home—such a brave job for such a tiny dog.

    20. Samoyed

    Samoyed

Look at that adorable face. Samoyeds are the closest to polar bears you’ll find in the canine world.

Originally used for pulling sleds, today, Samoyeds are typically kept as working dogs or family pets. They don’t do well in warm climates, which is one of the reasons they are not more widespread.

    21. Goldendoodle

    Goldendoodle

Here it is – the most famous Teddy Bear dog of them all – The Goldendoodle. Bred from Poodles and Golden Retrievers, this is a great breed for almost any purpose.

The only thing these pups can’t do is be a guard dog. They’d befriend intruders instantly! Their social nature is truly one of the most appealing things about this mixed breed – next to its extremely good looks.

    22. Newfoundland Dog

    Newfoundland Dog

The Newfoundland is an intimidating dog that comes in a large size, sporting a long, black coat. They are proof of how appearances can trick you. They are very affectionate and mild-natured, making them a great nanny breed.

Did you know Newfoundlands are some of the most common lifesaving dogs? Search and rescue is a trait that comes naturally to them, and their results are showing it.

    23. Coton De Tulear

    Coton De Tulear

This is one of those dog types that look more like plush toys than real dogs. Unfortunately, this also means many parents buy Coton De Tulears for their children without explaining proper care to them. Once they realize that even these tiny pups need maintenance, they abandon them.

Always do proper research and learn whether a dog breed is the right fit for you, no matter how small and toy-like they are.

    24. Bichon Frisé

    Bichon Frisé

The Bichon Frise is one of the most clingiest dog breeds you can find. These velcro dogs will put their paws on you all day long, asking you for attention.

It’s a good thing they are so charming!

    25. Shih Tzu

    Shih Tzu

Are you looking for a dog that is true royalty? Meet Shih Tzu!

In China, this pup is known as the “Xi Shi dog”. Xi Shi was thought to be one of the most beautiful women of ancient China, and Shih Tzus shared her good looks.

With a royal appearance comes a royal temperament. This is a stubborn dog that wants to do things its own way, so you might need some help training him.

    26. Pomeranian

    Pomeranian

The Pomeranian is a dog breed that behaves as if it owns the world. They want attention, and they want it now.

Make sure to have sweets ready all the time to give them to complaining neighbors – you’re going to need them. This is a vocal dog that will bark most of the time they are awake.

    27. Shichon

    Shichon

The Shichon is a crossbreed of a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tzu, and what can be more adorable than that?

This pup inherited the best of both worlds. It is more obedient than a Shih Tzu, but less sensitive than a Bichon Frise.

And considering this is a crossbreed, you can expect it to have a longer lifespan than both of its parent breeds.

    28. Poodle

    Poodle

After so many Doodles, it’s time to mention their parents!

The Poodle fur is known for being one of the most hypoallergenic coat types, which is one of the main reasons this breed gained popularity – the other being its high intelligence and, of course, its great appearance.

Not only that, but this is also one of the most colorful breeds out there. Just look at all those Poodle colors!

    29. Yorkshire Terrier

    Yorkshire Terrier

Finally, we have Yorkies, arguably the cutest dogs of them all.

These compact dogs are a popular toy breed that might even be smaller than your regular Teddy Bear. Unfortunately, this makes them quite fragile and prone to injuries, so they might not be suitable for families with toddlers.

Which one of these pups is your favorite? And which one looks the most like your favorite childhood toy? Let me know!
