Alyssa and Zack were scrolling on their Facebook one morning, not knowing that this day would change not only their lives but the lives of two amazing canines.
Before the two became a couple, Zack got Arthur, a Shar Pei Chow Chow mix, from a family friend. The two immediately became best friends, and their small family only grew stronger when Alyssa joined them.
The duo considered getting another dog, but the time just didn’t feel right.
Until one day when, while scrolling on Facebook, they noticed a post from Trenton Animals Rock rescue.
What Alyssa and Zach saw broke their hearts.
An Uncanny Resemblance
The rescue has posted about a neglected and abandoned Shar Pei Chow Chow mix that was looking for a new home.
The owner gave the pup, called Max, to the rescue, as they couldn’t provide him with proper care anymore due to personal reasons.
Unfortunately, the dog was already in bad shape, but nothing that some love and cuddles couldn’t fix.
However, what truly captured Zack and Alyssa’s attention was the picture of the pup. Max looked just like Zack’s dog, Arthur.
It didn’t take them long to decide: Max had to come home with them!
5 hours later, this was exactly what happened.
An Unbreakable Bond
Just as is the case with all dog meetings, Arthur and Wes – which is how they’ve renamed their newest rescue pup – were wary of each other.
However, this uncertainty was quickly over, as it didn’t take too long for the two of them to become inseparable.
Arthur and Wes not only played together, they did everything together. From walking and eating to even sleeping in the same bed, their bond was obvious to everyone who ever laid eyes on them.
As the two became best friends, their similarities only became more obvious.
Solving The Mystery
Arthur and Wes were a mirror image of each other, which made their human parents wonder if there is more than meets the eye.
So, in late 2022, they bought a DNK testing kit from EmbarkVet, thinking how it could be a lot of fun to learn the background of both of their pups.
However, what turned out to be the truth was far from their wildest dreams.
The first surprise was when they discovered that Wes wasn’t a Chow Chow mix but rather a purebred Chinese Shar Pei.
The second surprise was even more unexpected.
It turned out Arthur and Wes were brothers.
This coincidence would make anyone jump for joy!
United Again
It is unknown what happened to make Wes and Arthur separated as puppies. The two lead very different lives from the moment they went to their new owners.
While Arthur had the luck to find his forever home immediately, Wes had to go through some struggles first.
However, destiny had brought the two brothers together again, with a little (okay, plenty of) help from Alyssa and Zack, who were more than thrilled to have witnessed the reunion firsthand.
The reason behind the similarities was now so clear!
Sadly, the Trenton Animals Rock has closed its doors in 2023, but Alyssa and Zack will always be grateful for their help in bringing their pups together.
