The 3 Absolute Best Boerboel Breeders Ontario Can Provide

The 3 Absolute Best Boerboel Breeders Ontario Can Provide

Googling the phrase “Boerboel breeders Ontario” can only mean one thing – you want puppies in need of a home.

Wherever you saw the South African Mastiff and fell in love, I get it. Recently, I enjoyed watching my German Shepherd play with a big Boerboel puppy. The loving temperament they are known for instantly draws you in.

At first look, you might connect the large, imposing Boerboel with a guard dog, and you would be right. However, this extraordinary breed is known as a calm, loving, and family-friendly dog.

In case you need some general breed information, native people of South Africa developed this breed when the need for protection arose.

They needed a dog to defend their homes from lions, hyenas, and all deadly wildlife in the area. Despite their fierce nature, these dogs are invaluable companions.

The breed’s name is pronounced “boo-r-bull,” which roughly translates to ”farmer dogs” from Afrikaans language.

These wonderful dogs have many outstanding qualities; they are easy to groom, docile, and have little to no health problems. Another name this massive dog goes by is Borbull, the South African Mastiff, Bole, or the South African Boerboel.

This breed is very territorial, confident, and prone to chewing and pulling, making them a good fit with experienced handlers. The potential owner must be assertive, skilled, and have plenty of space for this four-legged giant.

Boerboel Puppies For Sale In Ontario

When considering adding a South African Boerboel to your family, exploring all options is essential. Before looking into the best Boerboel breeders Ontario offers, you might want to start with the local shelters first.

Many Boerboels end up in shelters due to their size and the challenges they pose for first-time owners. A lot of these gentle giants are just waiting for their small family to find them.

However, if you decide to purchase a Boerboel (absolutely nothing wrong with that), I can not stress the importance of a reputable breeder enough. Fortunately, Ontario offers several breeders who adhere to ethical practices and prioritize the well being of the dogs they have.

These reputable breeders have only one goal in mind: the stable temperament and good health of their Boerboels. They all conduct thorough health screenings to ensure the puppies are free from genetic disorders and breed-related health issues.

Furthermore, supporting ethical breeders helps discourage unethical breeding practices that can lead to many health problems and behavioral issues in Boerboels. By choosing a responsible breeder, you can confidently bring home a well-cared-for puppy from a reputable source.

1. The Zuri Boerboels Kennel

This is a small, family run kennel. They fell in love with this breed about 15 years ago.

They conducted extensive research on the breed and purchased their first female. They didn’t need long to fall in love entirely. The first Zuri Boerboels litter saw light on January 30th, 2012.

They are a member of the North America Boerboel Breeders Association (registration number #20130019). One of the owners of Zuri Boerboels is on the NABBA board of directors, while the other is a NABBA regional delegate for Canada.

Both hold the NABBA Appraiser Course, Phase 1 certificate since 2013 and Phase 2 since 2014. They also successfully finished the SABT Breeders Course in 2012.

All their dogs are NABBA/SABT registered, appraised, and health tested before the chance to enter the breeding program.

They say their only mission is to contribute to this majestic dog breed by producing Boerboels that adhere to the breed standard. All dogs from their breeding are loving and extremely loyal, with a stable, confident temperament.

The Zuri Boerboels Kennel is known for producing dogs with naturally strong protective instincts but without unnecessary aggression. They currently have four males and three females in their program.

True North Reya is the latest female addition to the kennel. NABBA appraised at 91.6%; she isn’t even the best-ranking female. That would be Balkan Cyra with 95.7%.

2. True North Boerboels

This family has grown up with dogs, with a special love for the larger breeds. They knew this was their heart breed when they were introduced to the South African Boerboel pups.

As they say, they have yet to discover a quality about these dogs they don’t adore. “Dogs are part of our family” is their motto, and they raise their gorgeous boerboel puppies in the warmth of their home. The dogs also have three acres of space to run around and play in.

This breeder is also registered with the North America Boerboel Breeders Association (registration number #20130179). They have certificates for the NABBA Appraiser Course, Phase 1 since 2013, and a more recent Institute of Canine Biology’s Understanding Hip & Elbow Dysplasia certification in 2017

All young pups from this kennel are registered through NABBA. All the DNA is profiled, and genetics are tested using Embark

True North Puppies

They have a small breeding program of one female and two males, avoiding breeding for profit. They do it for the love and preservation of this extraordinary breed.

The next planned litter is for summer 2024. The last one they had went to their new homes March 26th, 2022. If you want to join the puppy waiting list, you must complete an online application on their website.

The deposit for the purebred Boerboel puppies in this kennel is 500 dollars. Only a few deposits are accepted while planning a litter, and a few more when the pregnancy is confirmed.

The kennel reserves the right to pick up the litter puppy for all litters regardless of deposits. The deposits themselves are non refundable but transferable to other future litters. The rest of the purchase cost is due by pickup, delivery, or shipment of the dog.

The healthy boys and girls can go to their new homes after eight weeks of age. They are all sold on a limited registration companion contract, meaning you can get pets in this kennel but not breeding prospects.

All pups are de-wormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and have their tails docked before going to a new home.

The kennel owners are Sandor and Maria. Sandor always had a special affinity for big dogs, and this breed caught his attention.

He fell down a rabbit hole of extensive research about the extraordinary breed with outstanding qualities: the imposing presence, terrifying strength, and muscular anatomy only matched by the loyalty and intelligence of the breed.

They say every dog out of their kennel is a part of the family, and they constantly keep in touch with the owners. All dogs in the Sandor kennel are fully registered with the South African Boerboels Breeders Society (registration number: 0705593).

All dogs in their breeding program are imported from the most reputable breeders that could be found in South Africa. This includes kennels like Afrika Boelboels and CHD Boerboels, which have the best bloodlines in the Boerboel world.

They have three dogs in their breeding program. One beautiful and rare black male that often produces black males in litters. Maasai has an 85.6% appraisal score.

Sumaq, a pretty red-colored female with an 81.8% appraisal score, and Mbali, a rich tan-colored female with an appraisal score of 86.2%.

They produce healthy pups with good medium energy levels. All puppies go home with the same registration papers mom and dad have.

Is The Boerboel A Good Family Dog

These beautiful South African mastiff dogs are a fantastic addition to your family.

Everyone who had contact with this breed had a wonderful experience. Generally, these dogs are patient and kind, even with small children.

Often confused for the North American mastiffs, these gorgeous large dogs are big softies. They get along well with people and animals in their household. But please, do not expect that to be the same towards strangers. They are guard dogs, after all.

But to get a male or female pup of this breed with the correct temperament, you must seek out ethical and responsible breeders. That means you must look for colors adhering to the Boerboel breed standard, not blue Boerboel pups or, even worse, merle Boerbole puppies.

The fee for the dog will be higher than at a pet shop or other less ethical sources, but such fees exist because of the quality you receive. Look for breeders who are part of breed clubs, take their dogs to show, and have proper certification.

Whether you choose to adopt or to shop, do it responsibly. Please educate yourself on the breed and the needs they have. Research the source from which you are planning to get the dog thoroughly.

Whatever you choose, I sure hope you are going to have many beautiful years with your adorable new pup!
