Let’s indulge in the list of the Cocker Spaniel breeders I have found.

1. The Downonda Farm’s English Cockers Kennel

The owner of this kennel, Cindy Shaffer, is a true lover of the Cocker Spaniel breed.

She has many years of experience breeding Cocker Spaniel dogs. Her kennel, the Downonda Farm’s English Cockers, is located in central Ohio.

This kennel focuses on breeding companion dogs with beautiful temperaments and soundness of mind. However, that does not mean she does not breed show quality pups.

Cindy and her puppies often go to AKC dog shows and achieve the highest level of success.

This breeder does all the relevant health screenings for her breeding dogs.

She is passionate about the English Cocker Spaniel breed and does everything she can as a breeder to ensure that she is producing the happiest, well-loved, and well-rounded dogs.

A Little Bit About Downonda Farm’s English Cockers Puppies

The usual price for pups from this kennel goes from $3,000 to $3,500

The price includes a non-refundable $500 deposit. The price also includes a guarantee of a healthy puppy, vet checked, up-to-date shots, AKC registration, and socialization.

All puppies are priced equally regardless of pet or show quality, color, or sex. The breeder usually keeps the puppies until 10 -12 weeks to help ensure bites and testicles for show puppies.

They receive all recommended immunizations until they leave for their new homes.

Pups need time to nurse, grow, and develop with their mothers and littermates before joining their new families.

A newborn pup should remain with its breeder, mom, and rest of the litter as they develop physically and gain new social skills alongside their brothers and sisters.

Starting at three weeks, the breeder’s house gets very noisy with vacuums, clapping, whooping, clanging, slamming, bird noises, and any other noise she can create.

The pups have hard, soft, and squeaky toys, plus tunnels, wobble boards, recycled items, and outdoor time when weather and immunizations permit.

The puppies have their tails and dewclaws removed at 3 to 4 days of age. And this is not optional in this kennel.

The breeder deworms at three weeks, six weeks, and right before they go to their new homes. The vet administers all puppy shots according to recommended protocols starting at eight weeks.

2. The Am-Ericas Cocker Spaniels Kennel

Erica, a nurse from New York State, owns this small kennel.

Erica has owned Cocker Spaniels since 1990. The first pups in her possession were actually rescued Cocker Spaniels. However, her first show dog came in 1993, and she started breeding in 1999.

She is a Northern Ohio Cocker Spaniel Club member and the American Kennel Club (AKC). She also earned the prestigious “Bred with H.EART” AKC title.

She has left an ever-lasting footprint on the breed as a breeder of American Champions & several Sable/White Canadian Champions.

Her lines are in the pedigrees of many other famous breeders. Erica has always taken pride in that her Cockers are structurally true to the standard and have outstanding temperaments.

Health soundness has always been fundamental to this breeder, and over 20-plus years, she has made many sacrifices and developed lines of really healthy Cockers.

She performs genetic health screening/certifications on her dogs, such as Gen Sol, CAER, and OFA testing.

She is a hobbyist and a breed preservationist, not a “for-profit” dog breeder. She only has 3 Cockers now and usually breeds a litter a year.

A Little Bit About Am-Erica’s Cocker Spaniels Puppies

Their dogs are their babies and are lovingly spoiled and cared for in their home environment with doggy doors, a fenced yard, plenty of toys, activities, and socialization.

Their cockers are kept well-groomed on a regular bi-weekly schedule

The breeder only feeds premium quality food, 25% home-cooked/25% raw/ 50% Diamond Naturals Salmon recipe with no corn, wheat, gluten, or sorghum, to all the dogs, along with yummy homemade all-natural treats and natural marrow bones.

Her dogs and puppies receive proper vet health care, including regular dental cleanings. Pups go home at 9 weeks, with deworming done as well as their first round of shots.

The breeder starts early socialization and training with the pup, making it easier on you to continue the started behaviors when the puppy arrives home. The price of the pup varies depending on the breeding pair.

However, Erica and her husband don’t make any profit on the dogs, in fact they say they don’t even come remotely close to breaking even.

This means that her breeding program is a labor of pure love.

3. The Charmed Onz Cavaliers Kennel

Charmed Onz Cavaliers is a small breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and American Cocker Spaniels in Arcadia, Ohio. Annabelle Lee operates this family-run kennel.

At the Charmed Onz Cavaliers kennel, the goal is clear – to have a quality breeding program that breeds healthy, beautiful, and loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and American Cocker Spaniel puppies that will be loved and cherished by their new family as much as they are loved at the kennel.

The pups, along with their mommies and daddies, are raised in the breeder’s home, so they are very well socialized with other dogs when they go home.

They are used to everyday noises such as television, vacuum, phones ringing, people talking, and doorbells ringing. The only sound they are not used to is traffic, as the breeder lives in the countryside, and their road is not busy.

All the Charmed Onz Cavaliers puppies (the Cavaliers and the Cockers) are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC), and their family veterinarians regularly and thoroughly check them.

A Little Bit About Charmed Onz Cavaliers Puppies

The first American Cocker Spaniel in this kennel was Beauregard Ulysses 1st (Beaudy Beau for short).

Without too much time passing, the girls, Piper Lee Alexander and Paige Lee Alexander were added, and so their family of American Cocker Spaniels started here in the United States.

Next came Jessica Lee Alexander, their first Cavalier, who joined their family in 2007. She was a beautiful Tri-colored female who made a welcome addition to their family of dog lovers.

Their beautiful Mollymouse (Lady Mia Mirrabooka) was their next addition to their own program of Cocker Spaniels. After her, the baby boy Sheldon was next to arrive at Charmed Onz Cavaliers.

The kennel had excellent success showing their beautiful Cockers – Lady Beauregard Ulysses II, Lady Waltzing Matilda, Princess Olivia Grace, and their older sisters Paige Lee Alexander & Piper.

They also had a good time showing their Cocker male Prince Ezekiel Marquee, whom they adoringly call a funny little toad, coming from their lines of Pru & Grayson.

Their puppies are priced depending on the breeding pair but range from 2 to 5 thousand dollars. This kennel has a waitlist, so be sure to join it if you have a wish to own one of their puppies.

The Everlasting Adopt Or Shop Question

We know that when you are looking for a specific breeder within a particular place, there might not be many options, but within your few options, you need to know that they are quality breeders.

Finding a breeder is never easy; you can feel on top of the world when you finally find the perfect one. But, there is always another option that some people would even call the better one: adopting a dog.

This is an amazing thing to do, I am speaking from experience, because you also save a life and provide that dog with a warm and loving home. And these dogs are always loving and kind, it is like they appreciate your help escaping from horrible conditions.

You need to know a couple of things when it comes to adopting. Some dog breeds are more difficult to find in a shelter than others.

Either they are too favored and get adopted very quickly, or they are just that dog breed that is not sent to a shelter that frequently.

Finding a Cocker Spaniel puppy in a shelter is an arduous task. It can nearly seem impossible, especially if you only look in local shelters. You can always check out rescues throughout the United States, as many of them provide transport (for a fee).

I respect the wish to adopt a Cocker Spaniel, but if you genuinely want to adopt this breed, you should be ready to wait. Cockers are quite rare in shelters.

To Sum It All Up

Looking for the ideal dog breed is never an easy task. The job is not done when you finally find your best breed. The following step is also relatively tricky, and that step is locating the flawless, reputable breeder.

This list of Cocker Spaniel breeders in Ohio might not be long, but it includes solely the best breeders out there.

This list is not quite long because I wanted to provide you only with the best of the best, and these are the ones that I feel comfortable sharing with you.

Getting a new dog is exciting, but never rush to find your puppy.

If you want help deciding on the male vs female Cocker Spaniel debate we got you covered!

Whether you get a pup from a shelter or a breeder, research is always needed, and unfortunately, this might take some time. I am sure you are responsible and will take all the necessary time to find your future best friend.

I wish you and your future puppy all the happiness and love, and I hope you will be united soon.

Creating memories with your doggy is a fantastic thing that you and your family will cherish for life, and I am genuinely so, so excited for all of you. Have fun!
