41 Labrador Retriever Mixes For Families (With Pictures)

41 Labrador Retriever Mixes For Families (With Pictures)

The Labrador Retriever, known as the ultimate family dog, comes in many interesting Labrador Retriever mixes!

When you envision the ideal American dream, you will probably see a large house with a white picket fence around it, two children playing with their parents, and a Labrador Retriever somewhere in the picture.

These dogs are the epitome intelligent dogs, that do well with all kinds of families (number-wise) in all kinds of different living conditions. When it comes to living conditions, they only need love (well, with food, treats, and loads of playtime)!

Being active dogs as they are, mixed together with other dog breeds, can enhance or tone down that trait. However, it is important to understand the background of both parent breeds, in order to fully decide upon which one of these Labrador Retriever mixes is your favorite one.

Just so we are clear – the American Kennel Club does not approve of any mixed-breed dogs. For example, the Labrador Retriever dog has been approved by the AKC; however, this organization does not approve the most popular breed mix – the Labradoodle.

The Most Beautiful Labrador Retriever Mixes

When it comes to dog mixes, especially the Labrador Retriever mixes, you should know a few things before getting your hands on one of these.

Mixed-breed dogs are less prone to all known health issues. That’s definitely a plus! Because by mixing breeds, we are not forcing one genotype to breed to its limits but mixing them in order to balance everything out.

The Labrador Retriever, being one of the most popular breeds in the whole world, is gaining popularity by the day. And believe it or not, so are the Labrador Mixes!

Thanks to the Lab parent, every single one of these mixed dog breeds does really well in active families because they will need a lot of daily time doing various activities.

Charming, active, yet loyal and protective – all of these Labrador mixes can easily steal your heart. But it’s important to choose which one will steal yours! So, it’s important to find the most beautiful one for you!

Therefore, let’s go over these wonderful lab mixes. In the end, I’d love to find out which one of these is your favorite!

1. Dalmatian Labrador Mix – Dalmador

labrador dalmatian

The charming Dalmador is an elegant mix of two very different dogs in looks but similar in needs. Both parents are active dog breeds, which equals a mix that needs long periods of exercise.

They can be long-coated and dotted, short-coated and black, yellow, or brown. It really depends on the color of the parents and their parents.

This dog will love swimming, long walks, running, playing fetch – you name it!

2. Golden Retriever Labrador Mix – Goldador

labrador golden

The mix of the two most adored and most popular breeds, the Goldador is a wonderful family companion. Being gentle-natured as they are, they are great with young children and can even work as great therapy dogs or service dogs.

They can look like either parent or something in between. Both of the parent breeds look almost exactly alike. Therefore, the pups will be somewhere similar. The biggest role in looks is the color of the Labrador parent.

Because the American Labrador is usually a bit bulkier, the mixed breed might result in a Goldador that is bigger than the usual Golden Retriever.

3. Husky Labrador Mix – Husky Lab or Labsky

labrador husky

Adding a little bit of spice never hurts no one, right?

Adding a pinch of chili to your regular day-to-day dog personality might hit the jackpot for you! Huskies are talkative and active and have little ‘extra’ in their personality. Their sass is a unique characteristic that the pups will probably inherit.

The Husky Labrador Retriever mix is a cheerful dog that will thrive with active pet parents.

They don’t have many health problems and should be watched over when around small children because they might knock down a child unintentionally.

4. Pitbull Labrador Mix – Labrabull

labrador pittbull

This sweetheart will be your family’s favorite pet. The loving nature of the Pitbull Labrador mix can melt the coldest hearts and even those who said they wouldn’t like having a dog, ever.

This mix is my favorite because of its gentle nature and way of seamlessly blending into any kind of environment and living conditions. They will always have a smile on their faces, which will always make you happy.

They are easygoing and enjoy physical activities, as well as cuddles!

5. Beagle Labrador Retriever Mix – Beagador

labrador beagle

This cute little investigator loves sniffing around… everywhere! Laundry, around the house, at the dog park… You name it!

They can come in loads of different colors, depending on the Labrador parent’s coat color, as well as the genetics of the Beagle. Beagles are tri-colored. Therefore, the pups of these parents can be in two or three different colors!

They are highly energetic dogs that need loads of physical exercise!

6. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Labrador Mix

labrador cavalier king charles spaniel

We can agree that this cute mix looks like it just returned from auditions for a Disney princess movie!

They have these large eyes that will often beg for treats, and I know you won’t be immune to that. Their ears are often inherited from the Spaniel parent, making them adorable!

However, you should pay extra attention to their health since the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent is prone to many health issues.

7. Rhodesian Labrador Mix

labrador rhoedesian

This is an elegant and beautiful-looking Lab mix. They have more of an independent personality type, which means that they fit great with introverted personality types.

They enjoy being in active households and around people who are used to working out, taking long walks, hiking, etc.

8. Great Dane Lab Mix – Labradane

labrador great dane

The sophisticated look of this dog is out of this world. They can come in many different coat color variations, including harlequin, brown, black coat, yellow, white, and combinations of all these colors.

Thanks to Labrador genetics, the short lifespan of the Great Dane is prolonged for a few years. They are generally healthy, although hip dysplasia is usually not a strange disease for this mix.

The Labradane will also enjoy physical activity, but not just that – sitting in your lap will also be some of their favorite activities. If you didn’t know, the Great Dane parent is a giant baby who loves being in your lap despite their size!

9. Australian Cattle Dog Labrador Mix

Australian cattle

Having both parents as active working dogs, the Australian Cattle dog Labrador mix will be nothing less than that!

This mixed-breed dog will serve you greatly if you live on a farm or have any kind of cattle. They will enjoy active time, playing various games- from fetch to chasing around.

They come in the most beautiful color combinations!

10. Poodle Labrador Mix – Labradoodle

labrador poodle

We are down to the most popular breed when it comes to Labrador mixes – the Labradoodle!

While no dog is entirely hypoallergenic, some think Labradoodles are often curly and almost completely hypoallergenic since they don’t cause as many allergy-related problems as other dogs.

Their personalities are very trainable and endearing, according to many owners. Because they get along so well with people, many Lab Poodle mixes end up serving others by supporting them while they are experiencing mental or physical difficulties.

They are highly intelligent dogs, that learn basic as well as advanced commands really easily.

11. Newfoundland Labrador Mix

labrador newdoundland

If you want a dog that will be great with children but not afraid to protect the family and the territory it lives in, get yourself a Newfoundland Labrador mix.

These canines have the most loving expressions and such beautiful qualities. A well-balanced, obedient dog is the result when the Newfie’s quiet demeanor mixes with the Lab’s active energy.

These canines have a strong bond and affection with their human families. They are excellent playmates for kids and get along with various household pets.

12. Catahoula Labrador Mix

labrador catahoula

A cross between the Catahoula and the Labrador Retriever, the Catahoula Labrador mix is an active and affectionate dog. Because of their dominant, alpha-like personalities, Catadors are said to need early socialization and training.

In general, they make incredibly devoted pets and, with proper socialization during their formative years (or, better said, months), will get along nicely with other pets.

All mixed designer dog breeds, like the Labrador Catahoula Mix, are prone to inherit diseases from their parents, even though they are generally healthy hybrids with no documented medical concerns.

13. Border Collie Lab Mix

labrador border colliee

The Border Collie and Labrador Retriever are known as the two most loved and lively dog breeds in the world, and they are crossed to create the Border Collie Lab mix.

The Border Collie Labrador Mix breed of dog is typically medium-sized. Most of these mixed breed dogs have black and white markings, like their parent, the Border Collie.

As a result of their tendency to acquire their Labrador parent’s short hair, this hybrid requires less upkeep and grooming.

The Labrador Collie mix is a generally healthy dog with no known health problems; if overfed and underexercised, it can nevertheless develop diabetes and obesity.

14. Boxer Lab Mix

labrador boxer

The Labrador Boxer is a wonderful addition to all families. Their goofy nature, loving side, and eagerness to please are a winning combination!

They love being surrounded by many people and enjoy being at the center of attention. Aside from that, they are gentle with small children.

They are large-sized dogs, requiring a lot of daily exercise. They have loads of energy they will need to burn out!

15. American Bulldog Labrador Mix

labrador american bulldog

Bulky, medium in size, but large in terms of personality, charm, and lovingness! The American Bulldog Labrador mix is a unique mix that may occasionally snore, but it is always up to do anything for a treat.

Both of the parent breeds are easily food motivated, which is an excellent thing for positive reinforcement training, which is a method that works best with this mixed dog breed.

As I already mentioned, they are fans of food, therefore – try not to overfeed them because they are prone to gaining extra weight!

16 German Shepherd Labrador Mix – German Labrador or Sheprador

labrador gsd

If you need a dog that will be a great guard dog that has a soft spot for you, your family, and your children, the German Shepherd Lab mix might be a good choice for you!

This mix is highly intelligent and can learn everything in the blink of an eye. Because of this intelligence, whenever you leave them alone anywhere, it would be best to provide them with some interactive dog toys because they need a lot of mental stimulation.

17. Shar Pei Labrador Mix

labrador shar pei

Crossbreeding the Lab and Shar Pei results in the cute, wrinkled Lab Pei. While each puppy of this mixed breed may get characteristics from both parents, most of the litter usually inherits the Lab parent’s color.

They balance out the independent attitude of the Shar-Pei parent with the Lab’s friendly disposition.

These canines typically have good judgment regarding potential threats and can be excellent guard dogs. If you have older children, I suggest the Lab Pei as your next pet!

18. Chow Chow Labrador Mix

labrador chow chow

Are you a fan of teddy-bear-looking dogs? Look at this beauty!

Another mix with an independent parent, the Chow Chow Labrador mix, is self-sufficient yet loving towards its family. But the love usually goes nowhere else around the family circle.

The temperament and behavior of this mixed dog depend on which parent the puppy will inherit from both of its parents because they have pretty different behavioral traits.

However, this breed is often regarded as a kind and affectionate companion. The large-sized Chow Chow Labrador mix dog requires daily exercise of around two hours. It is advised to let them run and play freely in an open location if at all possible.

19. Akita Labrador Mix

labrador akita

They are wonderful family dogs whose protective attitude also makes them great watchdogs.

Although the Labkita may groom itself similarly to a cat, this is not enough to keep them clean and groomed. It’s necessary to brush them multiple times a week. Your Labrador Akita mix’s skin can dry from shampoo, so only give them a wash when necessary.

20. Cane Corso Labrador Mix – Cane Corador

labrador cane corso

If there was a dog breed that has a personality that is most similar to the human personality, it’s definitely the Cane Corso Labrador mix.

Thanks to their Cane Corso parent, they will be childlike and must be raised appropriately. They enjoy family time and time spent playing!

21. Shih Tzu Labrador Mix

This adorable face is the result of the Shih Tzu Labrador mix.

When it comes to their size, it might vary greatly, but generally speaking, they will fall around the middle of both parent breeds. Despite their small size, they steal the stage with their charming nature.

These dogs can be a little noisy, but they might do well in apartments. Still, they are highly effective with children and seniors!

22. French Bulldog Labrador Mix

labrador bulldog

This will be a medium to a small-medium-sized dog, that, luckily, most likely won’t inherit the Frenchie’s nose and the health problems that come with it!

They love being around people and despise spending time alone. The highlight of their day will be spending time with you; it doesn’t matter if it means snuggling on the sofa with you or walking outside.

23. Bull Mastiff Labrador Mix

labrador bullmastif

This is more of a large dog breed that works better with older children. Not that these dogs aren’t friendly to small children, but the problem here is their size – they can knock a child down unintentionally while running, which can cause a scene.

Therefore, if you are around children, it would be best to overlook their playtime.

Their loyal nature, friendliness, and charm will be out of this world because these dogs are a precious addition to any family.

24. Bernese Mountain Dog Labrador Mix

labrador bernese

This wonderful, often tri-color mixed breed dog will fascinate you with their curiosity, charm, and friendliness!

They will be large in size and have a bit longer coat, which you will need to brush regularly in order for it not to get tangled.

25. St. Bernard Lab Mix

labrador saint bern

The St. Bernard Lab mix is a dream come true to those of you who value large dogs that are very tolerant and have loads of patience.

Although they might drool and snore, those are the less important but cute characteristics of this mixed breed dog. At least, I hope so!

26. Great Pyrenees Labrador Mix

labrador great pyrenees

The parent breeds of this high-energy dog breed are both working and/or herding dogs, which makes this mixed breed in need of daily exercise.

They will most likely be champagne or beige in color, yet it depends on the color of the Labrador parent. Also, get those brushes ready because they will shed a lot!

27. Doberman Pinscher Labrador Retriever Mix

labrador doberman

Elegant, sophisticated, tall, and good-looking: this mix is a beautiful addition to your family.

However, I recommend this one only for active families because this dog needs loads of time daily spent in various activities.

Since the Doberman parent was bred to be a guard dog, you will be nothing less than safe having this dog around!

28. Rottweiler Lab Mix

labrador rott

Get ready for a bulky and equally loving dog! The Rottweiler Lab mix is a dog that has a gentle nature with its family and friends but is fierce when it senses danger.

They can inherit the famous two-colored coat of the Rottweiler but also come in any of the Labrador parent’s coat colors.

29. Bull Terrier Lab Mix

labrador bull terrier

This goofy clown’s full-time job would be to make you laugh at any given moment. Thanks to its Bull Terrier parent, the temperament of this dog will be nothing short of extraordinary.

They love being cuddled and cared for!

30. Pug Lab Mix

labrador pug

Whenever you hear a dog breathing loudly, I am almost sure it must be a Pug. However, thanks to the Labrador genes, this won’t be a problem!

This mix is rare, and you won’t see them that often because the two dogs are of different sizes. However, if you see one, I am absolutely sure that they will be happy if you greet them with pets!

31. Corgi Labrador Mix

labrador corgi

Mixing these two is a move that nobody has seen coming. But it definitely makes sense! Mixing the royal Corgi and the sweet Labrador can just result in a dog breed that is a great family pet.

They have adorable looks and, most often, erect, longer ears with bodies similar to Labrador’s.

32. Australian Shepherd Labrador Mix

labrador aussie

When discussing Australian Shepherd mixes, this one is my favorite!

This dog is energetic, bright, joyful, and quick to pick things up. Aussie Labs are great for both farm and apartment living and require little veterinary care.

The Australian Lab Shepherd requires frequent, moderate exercise and appropriate socialization because they might be timid or even a little unfriendly around strangers. Therefore, busy or inexperienced owners should not consider owning this dog.

33. Springer Spaniel Labrador Mix

labrador springer spaniel

By crossing two hunting dogs, the Springador creates an all-around athlete. These dogs are highly intelligent, careful, and easily trainable. You could have just discovered the ideal mix if you’re looking for a dog that will obey all of your commands and stay on task easily.

These dogs can be good family pets, although some people may find them to be a little hyperactive. These dogs thrive in environments with plenty of space for them to run around.

34. Weimaraner Labrador Mix

labrador weimaraner

Given the loads of energy this mixed breed has, Labmaraners will undoubtedly benefit from having a task you’ll give them to do every day.

Those who have active lifestyles and need to relieve steam in physical activity are the ideal candidates for these dogs. If this breed is not stimulated for extended periods of time, it can become anxious and exhibit negative tendencies.

They are not the greatest choice for elderly people because of their size and energy, but they do well with older kids. They may also have a strong desire to hunt, which makes them unsuitable for smaller pets.

35. Vizsla Labrador Mix

labrador wislza

The sweet Vizsla Lab mix inherits wonderful qualities from its parents. These dogs have short, glossy coats and adorable floppy ears. They are sleek and strong, and, most importantly, highly observant of their surroundings.

Even for first-time dog owners, this is a great choice. This dog is patient, kind, and loving, which makes them excellent choices for kids. They enjoy going outside to play fetch or burn off extra energy. They have a strong need for exercise.

36. Whippet Labrador Mix

labrador whippet

If you opt for this mix, you will receive an energetic, loving dog. Whippet parents can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, but they genuinely like lounging around.

Thus, striking a healthy balance between exercise and relaxation is key for this breed.

These canines are generally perfect for many lifestyles, including those of growing families and senior citizens. They have a tender spot for their owners and other family members and are good at obedience.

37. Alaskan Malamute Labrador Mix – Alaskan Malador

labrador alaskan malamute

The Alaskan Malamute Labrador mix is a free, independent thinker. Independent enough that if you don’t train them from an early age, they might become deaf to your commands.

Putting that aside, they will enjoy spending time with the whole family and receiving infinite scratches.

However, brace yourself because if the double coat gets inherited (and most likely will), you’ll have fun brushing them every day.

38. Irish Wolfhound Labrador Mix

labrador-irish-wolfhound

The tallest of them all, the Irish Lab mix is a wonderful companion for active (and tall) families. Often grey and with sharp hair, they require minimal upkeep and grooming.

They will follow your tempo, have a gentle temperament, and have a friendly nature.

39. Belgian Malinois Labrador Mix

labrador belgian malinois

The Belgian Malinois Lab mix is the most well-balanced one from all of the Belgian Malinois mixes

Thanks to the Labrador parent, this mixed breed will have a friendly temperament and gentleness for more than one person Malinois misses.

They will enjoy various physical activities, including swimming! So, buckle up, and let’s go!

40. Boerboel Labrador Mix

labrador boerboel

Because of the Boerboel parent, this mix will look like a Labrador bodybuilder. Because of their large size and the Boerboel’s temperament, this mixed breed will be a great guard dog with loads of love for its family and friends.

They will probably love eating because, knowing how much Labs love to eat, you’ll get it if you look at Boerboel’s feeding chart

They will enjoy playing with kids and other people close to your family, such as friends and relatives.

What is most important with this dog breed is to try to socialize them from an early age!

41. Anatolian Shepherd Labrador Mix

Anatolian Shepherd Labrador mix

Tall, large, and handsome – the Anatolian Shepherd Lab mix is an excellent match for families that want a guard dog that is affectionate towards them but not as much to strangers.

They will do best with a family that lives on a farm or a ranch because they are herding dogs that need something to do every day.
